Kyle Markley, candidate for Oregon Secretary of State

Kyle Markley
for Oregon Secretary of State

I am running to be your next Oregon Secretary of State.

The role of the Secretary of State is to oversee elections, audits, and public records. It's mostly an administrative job, but it does have a small slice of policy advocacy as the Secretary of State's office makes legislative requests related to the areas of government it oversees.

I don't think we should have a Democratic Secretary of State because there is too much temptation to provide cover for mismanagement at the hands of the Democratic-controlled executive branch. And I don't think we should have a Republican Secretary of State because there is too much temptation to try to exploit discoveries of mismanagement for political gain.

As a Libertarian Secretary of State, I will hold both major parties in equal disdain and will simply work to improve systems impartially and without regard to political fallout. I am truly independent.

I pledge to do what I can to make Oregon government work better for you, to make public records more easily available, and to run a world-class election system.

The ideal of "free" elections means that you have the right to participate in politics without being burdened by the government, free to act without fear that you are unknowingly running afoul of complex regulations. I will do my best to cut the red tape. But I need your help, too! I need you to vote NO on Measure 107. It would give government enormous authority to hyper-regulate political speech, even the authority to say who may speak, and how much, and to prevent some from speaking at all.

You may notice that I've been a candidate for State Representative in previous elections. I decided to leave all my old material online, even though it's legislative in nature, because it still informs you about how I think and approach issues.

Please vote for Kyle Markley for Secretary of State.
